In Robert Lang's first UK solo show, 'Filthy Gorgeous Camden Town', the girls themselves are undoubtedly the celebrated main attraction and inspiration behind the photo series. Having moved to Camden, London in 2001 in his late teens, Lang playfully captured moments in the young girls lives on their wild nights outs and in around Camden in the early noughties. The resulting images encapsulate an inhibited moment in time, they transport us into the scene; they hand us a can of Red Stripe and invite us to dress up, roll up and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. The women ooze raw female empowerment and guttural feral vivaciousness. Accompanied by the exhibition will be a launch of a zine with a selection of photos spanning from 2005 – 2010.
"We crawled the nightlife and house parties documenting the nights".
"I only selected women in the photographs as they were more unrestrained than the boys. It was quite the time to be living in Camden when everything was Indie, Rock, Punk, Vintage and we never left Camden to go out anywhere else. I always carried a camera, so I was always photographing. Everything was very natural and organic. These women were smart, fashionable and witty; they represented everything about our period at that time in London."
